MACKEY, Milton Edward - Age 102, of Swartz Creek, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek (A live stream of the service will be available on Milton's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com). Rev. James Schultz. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Vernon. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 12:00 PM until the time of the service. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Milton was born February 28, 1921 in Lawler, MN, the son of Soloman and Hannah (Andersen) Mackey. He was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne, 508 Regiment. He married Kathleen Ada "Kitty" Gorman August 8, 1942 in Detroit and she preceded him in death June 18, 2015. Milton had resided in Swartz Creek since 1965 coming from Flint. He retired from Grand Trunk Railroad after 40 years of service. He was a member of the V.F.W. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Kitty and spending time with his family. He would also attended the 82nd Airborne, 508 Regiment's reunion for many years.
Surviving are: his children, Suzette Hickok of Swartz Creek, Edward Mackey of Shelby Township and Norma (Dennis) Barr of Swartz Creek; grandchildren, Susan Hickok of Colorado, Gregory Mackey of Shelby Township, Christopher Barr of Swartz Creek, Jason (Lindsay) Barr of Florida, Jennifer (Robert) Allison of Gaines and Kaitlin Barr (Andrew Sunde, fiance') of Fenton; great grandchildren, Kirstin, Jared, Jenna, Taylor, Gavin, Isabella, Conner, Samuel and Bennett; great-great grandchildren, Jordan, Jackson and Aubree; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Jennifer LaRose; grandson, James Hickok; brothers, Bernard and Rudolph; and sisters, Elsie and Elinor. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
