HELTON, Voula “Stella” - Of Grand Blanc, age 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at her residence.
Her loved ones invite you to a funeral service on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 11:00 am at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 2245 East Baldwin Road. Immediately following, she will be laid in her final resting place at Evergreen Cemetery, 3415 Hill Road. Father Jarrod Russell will be officiating. Flowers welcome and contributions may also be made to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church.
The family will also hold visitation from 2-8 pm on Friday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Father Russel will officiate the Trisagion Service at 7 pm that day at the funeral home.
Voula was born in Platsa, Greece on April 15, 1933, the daughter of the late Nick and Sophia Polymeneas. She immigrated to Canada and married her husband, John Helton, on June 19, 1958, and was married for 40 years before he preceded her in death on May 12, 1998. Together with her husband, they made a career feeding and caring for others in the food business, eventually establishing John’s Coney Island and Fox Fire Lounge in west Flint, from where they retired in 1994. Voula was generous, intelligent, caring and funny. She was a member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church since 1961. She loved to cook and share her cooking with others. She nurtured many friends and employees. She had a talent for growing flowers and vegetables, knitting and crocheting. She spent her retirement years caring for and enjoying her garden, her home, her family and friends.
Surviving Voula are her children, James (Hope) Helton, Peter (Lisa) Helton and Paula Stone; grandchildren Sophia, Alexandra, Benjamin and Joseph; siblings Angelo (Bessie) Polymeneas; Thanasia Kyskira, Kay (Bill) Nikolakakos, and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Robert Stone, brother-in-law, Chris Kyskira and Tony (Agatha) Karakitsos, and siblings Peter, Gregory, George and Penelope Polymeneas.
