Benjamin James Roof, age 86, of Swartz Creek, Michigan passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 5, 2022 from 1PM-8PM at Brown Funeral Home - 1480 E. Hill Road, Grand Blanc, Michigan. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at 11AM with one hour of visitation prior to the service at Our Savior Lutheran Church - 6901 N. Saginaw Street, Flint, Michigan. Interment will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. Ben was born on March 7, 1936 in Lima, Ohio to the late Benjamin and Garnette Roof. Ben graduated from Beecher High School in 1953 and a few years later he married the love of his life, Bertha on August 23, 1958. Shortly after, Ben enlisted in the US Army and proudly served from 1959-1961 as a Radio Operator Specialist; stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. Over the years, Ben belonged to several organizations and served on many board of Directors within these organizations. Ben was inducted into Greater Flint Area USBC Bowling Hall of Fame on October 2, 1988 and Greater Flint Area Sports Hall of Fame on December 4, 2004. Ben was very devoted to his church, Our Savior Lutheran Church. He served in many capacities within the church. Ben was a wonderful man and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, Bertha; children: Ellen Roof-Crain, Jon (Amber Newsom) Roof; grandchildren: Nathaniel (Haley Cornell) Crain, Nickolas (Robin) Crain, Benjamin Roof, Alexis Roof, Brianna (Daniel) Newsom, Elizabeth (Chris) Erickson, Allison (Max) Newsom; 10 great grandchildren; siblings: Janice Krapohl, Doris Onstott and Dan Roof; sister-in-law, Jeanette Webster; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Garnette; sister, Ruth Stempel; father-in-law, L.D. Camp; mother-in-law, Thelma Camp; brother-in-laws: Henry "Jack" Krapohl, Don Webster, Dale Camp; son-in-law, Stanley Crain; and nephew, Jack Krapohl. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the family to deliver to organizations dear to Ben's heart.
