VORCE, FLORENCE IRENE “NANA” - Of Flint, age 103, died Thursday, July 20, 2023 at her residence.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2023 at the
Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Vicki Kuhn, Margo Culp and Kim Strom co-officiating.
Burial in Grace Lawn Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project or Disabled Veterans Foundation.
Visitation 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023 and 12 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday, July 30, 2023 and 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Florence was born in Bellaire, Michigan on May 17, 1920, and was a resident of Flint/Grand Blanc since 1930. Florence graduated from Beecher High School and received her college degree from Baker University. She was a member of Flint First Church of the Nazarene, where she served as an adult Sunday school teacher, board member, choir member and youth director.
Florence enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, traveling, gardening, hunting and fishing. In her youth, Florence was very involved in sports activities. She valued her relationship with the Lord above all else, and it was reflected in every aspect of her life.
Florence began her career in the trucking business and rose to the position of Vice President and General Manager of Bancroft Trucking, later known as Central Transport. Florence was in the Who’s Who of American Business Women. She was a true entrepreneur who developed Genesee Cartage Company from which she later retired and co-owned Kim and Tim’s Children Store in Grand Blanc.
Surviving are 3 daughters, Vicki Kuhn of Flint, Margo and husband Larry Culp of Grand Blanc, and Kim and husband Len Strom of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma;
7 grandchildren, Robert Kuhn, Ryan Kuhn, Alesha (Scott) Cremin, Christy (Craig) Geffrey, Neil, Amy and Jana Strom;
5 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Jacob and Berlynn Kuhn, Luke and Eva Cremin;
and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dayton Marshall and Margaret Marshall White; husbands, Donald Lampson, killed in action in WWII and Herbert T. Vorce, her spouse of 37 years; siblings, William, Robert, Ruth, George, Gloria Jean and Patty.
