After 37 years of marriage, she preceded him in death on November 25, 1991. Andy served as an officer in the Air Force and participated in the ROTC program at Michigan State University. He finished his professional career with the City of Flint as the City Engineer, retiring in 1982 . Andy continued to work as a private consultant and as an arbitrator helping settle engineering and construction related disputes out of court. Upon retirement, Andy moved up north to Beulah where he built a retirement home, enjoyed Crystal Lake, golfing, and his many new friends.
Andy volunteered for many years while living in Beulah at the Benzie County Food Bank, BACN, and St. Ann's Parish men's club pancake breakfasts. He also served as volunteer President of the Genesee Area Red Cross. He received a letter from Elizabeth Dole thanking him for his Red Cross service, for which he was most appreciative.
Andy was best known for his music. He played accordion and led the Andy Nester Orchestra for many years, playing polkas and waltzes for many Czech, Slovak, Polish, Italian, and other ethnic weddings and anniversary parties. He enjoyed strolling through the restaurants in Frankenmuth, playing his accordion for guests and he played many polka music festivals and dances with his band. In his retirement, Andy traveled to Arizona and California, meeting music friends and playing with them. He finished his music career at the Little River Casino, playing with his band on Mondays for polka lovers.
