On June 30, 2023, our mother, Elizabeth (Betty) Reid Cole of Clio, passed away peacefully at the age of 92, after a long and full life.
Our mom will be lovingly remembered with smiles as well as tears by her children Debbie (Eric) Bauer of Flushing, Pamela (Ross) Graham of Kalama, Washington and Bob (Denice) Cole of Clio. She will also be remembered with love and affection by her 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends. Betty will be especially missed by her devoted friend and companion, Carl Rushton.
Betty is predeceased by her husband, Bob. They were married for 59 wonderful years before his death in 2008. Also preceding her passing were her parents (Robert and Elizabeth Reid), and her 4 siblings, James, George, John and Joan Milliron.
“Mrs. Cole” was employed for many years as a secretary to the principal at Moore School (when her children were young) and later at Mt. Morris High School (we were sure she was following us!).
She fit fun and family into her life through hospitality and hobbies! At different times in her life she enjoyed square dancing, bowling, camping, quilting and golf. She loved her church and her church family. Singing was always a part of her life, even during her very last days!
The following are thoughts and memories in the words of her children and grandchildren:
“Grandma is the cornerstone of the foundation I’ve built my life on.”
“I love it when she sings the old Scottish songs!”
“She had a million best friends.”
“You were always there with guidance, an adventurous spirit and cookies.”
“You and Grandpa have shown us how to love each other and model a marriage and family.”
“I always thought I had the prettiest grandma with great dance moves!”
“Grandma had positive, affirming words when I’ve done well and honest words at other times.”
“The beautiful, hand-stitched quilt that you made for us, is a sacred possession.
Our mom was deeply loved and will be missed always!
Special thanks to Hampton Manor of Montrose who lovingly pampered, entertained and cared for our mom in her final months. Words are unable to convey our appreciation!
A private service will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s name to her church home for many years:
