Penny was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 15, 1939 to Clarence and Dorothy (Quigg) Ankele. At the age of 13 Penny became aware of her sinfulness and the gift of salvation offered to her through Jesus Christ, who she chose to receive as her very own Savior and the burden of her sin was lifted. Her life was forever changed from that day forward. After graduating high school, she attended Grand Rapids Baptist Bible Institute, completing a 3 year course in Christian Education. At Grand Rapids Baptist Bible Institute (later to become Cornerstone University), Penny met the love of her life, fellow student Richard Pillsbury. They married on June 24, 1960. After graduation, she and Richard were called to serve as missionaries in Mexico under Baptist Mid-Missions which is currently in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Penny was a devoted pastor’s wife and helpmate to Richard for 60 years in his work as a pastor. In 1978, they founded Little Flock Church of Flint. In the spring of 2016 the congregation moved to Flushing, Michigan. At this time the church was renamed Fragrance of Christ Ministries (FCM). Her husband Richard continues ministering as the Senior Pastor of FCM. Penny worked at Eisenhower Elementary where she loved working with the children and made many friends. Penny always had a song in her heart and sang praises to God all the days of her life. She had a special love for people and made everyone who knew her feel like they were her very favorite. She enjoyed traveling to the Upper Peninsula for deer camp with family each year.
Penny is survived by her husband, Pastor Richard B. Pillsbury; children, Kevin W. (Margie) Pillsbury, Shawn C. (Anne) Pillsbury, Todd R. (Alyssa) Pillsbury, and Kara Anne (Kevin) Welsh; unofficially adopted daughter, Charlene (Gale) Lanning; 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, with her 7th due in May; sister, Jayne (George) Lajti; all of her Fragrance of Christ Ministries church family; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives in Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Marilyn Crouse.
Well done, good and faithful servant! |
