Jan was born in Lansing MI, on March 13, 1944, the daughter of (Max Easterbrook and Catherine Powers). She married Dale Coggins on October 4, 1968, in Flushing, MI at the Presbyterian Church of Flushing. Flushing is where they chose to live together for the following 54.5 years, raising a family and being an integral part of the community. Jan spent the first few years after she married Dale as a real estate agent at Walter Todd Realty. This gave her the flexibility to be with her children as they were growing up. She was a great homeroom mom at her children’s school. After a while she opened a home daycare so she could still be available whenever her own children needed her. As her children grew, she decided to pursue a career working for the Catholic Church. For over 10 years, Jan worked as a Youth Minister at St. Robert Church, Flushing, St. John the Evangelist Church of Davison and SS. Charles and Helena Church in Clio. After receiving her certification in Pastoral Studies, she spent the next 15 years working as a Pastoral Associate at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. She retired in December of 2008, so that she could spend time with her grandchildren. The next 15 years were spent attending her grandchildren’s events and helping when there was a need. Her favorite activities were; being the #1 Michigan State fan, taking spontaneous road trips and visiting casinos. She also spent time volunteering at the Flushing Outreach Center. Jan was a loving soul who wanted to help others whenever she could.

Jan is survived by her husband, Dale; daughter, Lynnette Coggins; daughter-in-law, Kristy Coggins; grandchildren, Emma and Bradlee. Sister in laws, Judy Easterbrook, Therese Townsend, Kathy (Steve) Hughes and Margie Coggins. Several nieces and nephews, cousins, special “adopted” children and grandchildren, along with many special friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Anthony, her brothers, Patrick and Thomas and her dear friend, Fr. Paul Schwermer.

A special thank you to her “besties” JoAnn Petrowski and Bev Hamilton who have been so helpful in taking care of her during this journey. The family would also like to thank the nurses and doctors at Hurley Hospital and Hospice House of Shiawassee County for their care and compassion.
