Crawford, Gordon W. - Age 90, of Byron, died May 11, 2023 at Hospice of Lansing, Stoneleigh Residence. Funeral services will be held 12 PM Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Byron Elementary School Gymnasium, 401 E. Maple St. Byron. Pastor Jim Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow in Byron Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2-8 PM Friday, May 19, 2023 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel 1000 Silver Lake Rd. Fenton and from 11 AM Saturday at the school until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Byron Athletic Department (checks payable to Byron Area Schools) or Hospice of Lansing, Stoneleigh Residence. Gordon was born August 4, 1932 in Birmingham, the son of Earl and Stella (Render) Crawford. Gordon was a graduate of Birmingham High School, Class of 1949. Gordon enlisted in the Air Force, was stationed in Japan from 1951-1954 and was honorably discharged. Gordon played football for the Air Force while stationed in Japan. When he came back home to Michigan, Gordon married Norma Crawford, the love of his life, on October 27, 1956 at Norma's parents home in Byron. He loved spending time with his family. He worked at their family owned business, Crawford Brothers Excavating. Gordon served on the School Board for Byron Area Schools for many years. He was also an avid photographer. Gordon was best known for his love of coaching. He continued to coach the Byron Girls Softball teams until he was 85. Surviving are his devoted sons, Michael and wife Ellen (Kelley) of Byron, Jeff and Wendy (Ramon) of Eaton Rapids, Dennis of Byron, Kevin and wife Mariann (Kosal) of Gaines; five granddaughters and five grandsons; 11 great-grandsons and six great-granddaughters; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma; sister, Ester (Steiner) and brothers, Ralph and Ray Crawford. A very special thank you to Dr. Mendoza and staff.
