CULHANE, Deborah D.
Of Clio, went home to be with the Lord, and her Husband, Douglas on January 12th, 2022. A private funeral will take place for her immediate family.
Born December 16th, 1950, and passed away January 12th, 2022 at the age of 71.
Deborah was born in Flint, Michigan, and was a child of the late Curtis and Uldene Fish. Deborah grew up in Flint, MI and graduated from Flint Northwestern in 1969. It was during her time at Flint Northwestern, that Deborah would meet her childhood sweetheart, Douglas, at the age of 15 years old. Six months after graduation, Deborah would marry the love of her life on November 21st, 1969, and the two would reside in Clio, MI. Deborah spent her early years working at local banks, but her career and title quickly transitioned to the role of a full time Mother, as she and Douglas realized their dreams of having a large family. Deborah was given a new name, one she would be known by for the rest of her life- it was “Mom”. At 5 foot tall and 90 pounds, she gave birth to, and raised 6 children, all the while keeping a household intact. Deborah was one of the most loving, intelligent, sharp, and feisty individuals you would ever meet. Whether it was helping with homework, taking care of a sick kid, or a fight, Deborah never shied away. With her amazing intellect, Deborah always figured out a way to make things work for her family. And if anyone ever made the mistake of accusing one of her children of something, you better watch out, you would get the full force of her intellect and energy. She would stand by her Husband and Children with unprecedented love and loyalty, right or wrong, and would be ready to fight for them at all costs. Deborah was an amazing Mother and a devoted Wife.
Deborah and Douglas built a wonderful life together. Not only having 6 children, but the two were blessed to be Nana and Papa to 19 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. The 2 of them had a strong and honest marriage, and had the definition of True Love. Their love and devotion to each other, was undoubtedly their greatest strength and the reason for their success in life.
On October 9th, 2017, one month shy of their 48th Wedding Anniversary and after 51 years together, Deborah lost her childhood sweetheart and Husband. For anyone that knew Deborah, they would know this is the day when she really lost her life. Although a devoted Mother and Grandmother, things would never be the same for her. And unfortunately for Deborah, tragedy would strike again as her daughter, Daleena Castillo, would unexpectedly pass away on April 30th, 2020. These losses broke Deborah’s heart past the point of being repaired. She tried and fought to overcome these things for her remaining family, but unfortunately our Mother died of a broken heart.
And although Deborah is no longer with us, she leaves behind a lot of memories as a wonderful Mother to her Children. “Mom” or “Mama Deb” loved all of her Children, and Nana loved all of her Grandchildren. No matter how hurt or mad she was at you, if you called her, she would always answer. Deborah loved her Children, and fulfilled the purpose she wanted in life as an amazing Wife and Mother.
Deborah leaves behind her children, Darlene (Matt) Cantaberry, Danielle (Ricky) Bennet, Adam Castillo, Douglas Culhane II, Dustin (Chelsea) Culhane, Darci Pickett, 19 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
Deborah was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas, daughter Daleena, and parents Curtis and Uldene Fish.
