Garry Lynn Leichliter, age 71, of New Lothrop, began his newest adventure in Heaven on December 23, 2022. He was born on June 8, 1951 in Wichita, Kansas to Glenn and Almeda (Smith) Leichliter. On January 28, 1973, he married the love of his life, Karen Dee Miller.
Garry served in the United States Marine Corps from 1973 to 1976. Garry then went to work for General Motors and obtained his Master’s Degree in Engineering from the University of Michigan. He retired from General Motors in 2008 after 32 years of service.
Garry had a passion for helping people, which came from his servant’s heart. Garry’s daily priorities were: God; family; country / community. In the churches Garry attended, he ministered whenever there was an opportunity. He worked hard to provide for every need his family had. He served his country in the military & his community for many years as Councilman & Treasurer for the Village of New Lothrop & later, as an EMT with Twin Township Ambulance. His favorite pastimes were music & football.
Garry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Karen Leichliter; Sons, Mark (Erin) Leichliter, and Matthew (Jackie Gobrogge) Leichliter, Grandchildren; Jonathan, Grace, Daniel, Joshua, and Ellis; Siblings; Gwen (Jim) Parsons of Kansas, Gail Leichliter of Florida, and Greg (Shannon) Leichliter of Idaho. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held at First United Methodist Church of New Lothrop. Visitations are scheduled for Friday, January 6, 2023 from 6-8 pm & at 10 am on Saturday, January 7, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11 am EST. Dinner will be served following the service at the church. Burial will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI on Monday January 9th at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Garry’s honor to Twin Township Ambulance, PO Box 303; Hazelton Township Fire Department, PO Box 51; or 1st United Methodist Church of New Lothrop, PO Box 247, New Lothrop, MI 48460. |
