MATA, Colleen J. (Hewitt) – of Flint, MI, age 92, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023. A Funeral Service will be held 1 PM Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423. Burial will follow in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 AM – 1 PM Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society in Colleen Mata’s name.
Colleen was born in Flint, MI on December 26, 1930. According to her parents, Charles and Beatrice (McGinley) Hewitt, she was “the best birthday present” her dad, who shared that birth date, had ever received. Colleen married Juan Mata in Angola, Ind., in May 1957. She worked at AC Spark Plug for 34 years, retiring in 1985. After retirement, Colleen enjoyed researching her family’s ancestry, but her most prized role was as Gramma/Grammy/Mimi/Gigi to her four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Colleen is survived by three children: Daniel (Brenda Brissette) Mata, Diane (Jim Love) Mata-Cooper, and Dale Mata; four grandchildren, Brent (Sonali Arora) Mata, Brandon Mata, Bryce (Angela Lopez) Mata, and Kayla (John) Winkler; and four great-grandchildren, Malini and Meera Mata, Sloane Winkler, and Isley Mata. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Juan; brother John “Jack” Hewitt; and son-in-law, Pat Cooper. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, including special niece Anne Juarez-Wills.
