McMILLIN, SARA JANE – Of Grand Blanc, age 87, died Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Ascension Genesys Hospital.
Private funeral service will be held at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Due to Covid-19 and government regulations, only 25 people will be allowed in the chapel at one time. Mask, group capacity and distancing guidelines must be practiced.
Visitation 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph Indian School in South Dakota.
Sara was born in Hughes, Arkansas on February 25, 1934, the daughter of Alvie and Gertrude (Johnson) Matney.
In 1956 she left her home for a new life in Michigan and she married the love of her life, her beloved husband of 57 years, James L. McMillin.
She never worked outside the home, but worked tirelessly in the home for James and their 2 girls.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Candace and husband Brian Hetherington, who provided a safe and loving home for an increasingly infirm Sara for the past 5 years;
daughter, Kelly Friday;
grandson, Collin and wife Alexandria Friday;
cherished great-grandsons, James Friday and Andrew Friday;
sisters, beloved baby sister, Patricia (Larry) Turman and Margaret Alshouse;
brother, Ray (Joyce) Matney; beloved brother-in-law, Carl McMillin;
many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved “Lee”; brother, Odis and his wife Patricia Matney.
