SOPKO, Paul A. - Age 100, of Flushing, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek (A live stream of the service will be available on Paul's obituary page at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com). Fr. Louis Ekka officiating. Burial in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Swartz Creek. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Monday from 4-8 PM. Those desiring may make contributions to a charity of one's choice in Paul's name.
Paul was born June 5, 1922 in Brilliant, OH, the son of John and Anna (Bukovinsky) Sopko. He was a 1940 graduate of Mary Crapo High School in Swartz Creek. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army. Paul married Marie R. Rehanek October 15, 1948 in Swartz Creek and she preceded him in death January 19, 2009. He had resided in Flushing since 1968 coming from Flint/Swartz Creek. He retired from GM Chevrolet after 42 years of service. He was a member of St. Robert Catholic Church in Flushing; and a former member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Flint and St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Swartz Creek. He also was a member of the U.A.W. Paul enjoyed gardening and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan.
He is survived by his children. Paul J. Sopko of Warren, Robert Sopko of Flint, Thomas Sopko of Grand Blanc, Donald (Karen) Sopko of Fenton, Marianne (Bob) Stuckwisch of Grand Blanc, and Christine Sopko of Flushing; grandchildren, Kristen (Julian), Stephanie, Amy (Eric), Andrew (Beverly) and Daniel (Ashley); great grandchildren, Brianna (Kaitlyn), Violet, and Zoey; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and several brothers and sisters. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dawn and Kenna at First Hospice for their dedicated care. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
