GARFIELD, Robert L. – of Birch Run, age 84, died on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw. The family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run on Thursday, July 21, 2022, from 4PM until 8PM.
Robert was born October 30, 1937, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Elwyn and Rose (Kozma) Garfield. He graduated from Birch Run High School in 1956. After high school he attended trade school and worked for Universal Engineering in Frankenmuth for many years and ultimately retired in 1996 from Saginaw Steering Gear as a Tool and Die Maker. Robert married Lois Papineau on May 19, 1962, at Christ Lutheran Church in Birch Run. Robert was a U.S. Army Veteran, former member of the Birch Run Moose Lodge #2426, and the Clio Country Club. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed swimming, traveling, and spending winters at his condo in Myrtle Beach. Robert loved camping with family and friends in his motor home – especially at Pirateland Campground in Myrtle Beach where he was affectionately nicknamed the “cruise director” for his outgoing personality, and always arranging the fun activities for family and friends. Above all, Robert loved spending time with his family – especially his granddaughters.
Surviving are: Loving wife, Lois Garfield; Daughters: Pamela (Paul) Moore, and Andrea (Walt) Adamczyk; Granddaughters: Lindsey Moore, and Taryn Adamczyk; Sister, Linda (Dave) Nicholas; Special friends: Alex Defendorf, Krista Beaudin, and Linda Joles. Robert was also preceded in death by: Siblings: Eleanor Williamson, Gerald (Millie) Garfield, Shirley (Ruben) Matzke, Donald (Jeannie) Garfield, and Phyllis Waack; Father and mother in law, Lewis and Eunice Papineau.
