Beverly (Ecklund) Barnett of Flint Twp. passed away on December 22, 2024 at the age of 91. Beverly was the beloved only child of Clarence and Mable Ecklund, of Flint. Her father was an amateur photographer, so we are blessed to have many adorable photographs of her happy childhood. She graduated from Flint Central High School in 1952, and worked as a book keeper as a young woman.
She had always longed to be a wife and mother, so she was overjoyed when she met Thomas Barnett of Flint on a blind date. They fell in love and were married in 1964, and had two children, Pam and Greg.
Beverly was a self-described "happy person." Even as a small child she always had a smile on her face. She never met a stranger. She also was never afraid of a challenge. She learned to cook and sew, making most of her children's clothes when they were young.
She learned to decorate cakes and how to groom her own dogs. She ran a food co-op out of her home at one point. She and Tom loved to go on family camping trips, traveling all over the country and into Canada. They also had an amazing organic vegetable garden. She was especially accomplished at knitting and crocheting, making beautiful creations for family and friends. She also was a devoted caregiver for her elderly father. Later in life, they both really LOVED being grandparents!
Beverly happily was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1982, and found great joy in her service to God. She belonged to the Flint Western Hills congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. She was a very spiritually-minded person and had a very close relationship with her Heavenly Father, Jehovah.
Her joyful, kind spirit and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Beverly is survived by her two children, Pamela (John) Hillman of Swartz Creek, and Gregory Barnett of Harmony, Florida; and only grandchild, Aaron McLeod of Saint Cloud, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Thomas Barnett, her parents, beloved son-in-law Mark McLeod, and close cousin Jay Burgess. A special thank you to Katlyn her hospice nurse of Heart to Heart Hospice, and the staff of Living Joy Assisted Living, who took good care of her the last few months. Also, thank you to the wonderful friends in the Western Hills and Flushing congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses for all their love and support. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses,1187 S. Dye Rd., Flint MI 48532 on Saturday January 11, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. Please contact the family for Zoom information.
