Robert L. Knappins, II, 65, of Walbridge, OH. passed away suddenly on November 13, 2010. He was born in Toledo, OH to Robert L. Knappins Sr. and Isabelle (Fair) Knappins on July 16, 1945. Bob, “Bowie”, graduated from Woodward H.S. in 1963 and attended Davis Jr. College where he earned an associate degree. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1963 and served in Vietnam until 1972 as a Nuclear Weapons Technician. He served on the U.S.S. Hornet. Upon leaving the Navy, he was employed for 22 years with Toledo Edison. He began his career as a boiler operator then as a journeyman electrician. Bob retired in 1994.
In 1996 through 2008, Bob worked for Ohio Department of Mental Health as an electrician. Bob married, the love of his life and travel companion, Mary Anne (Harmeyer) Knappins on March 10, 1973.
Robert was very active in civic organizations. He was a Past Commander of the American Legion-Arthur Daly Post, member of Walbridge V.F.W. #9963, AmVet, 40 et 8, Rossford Eagles, Moose Lodge, and Arrow Club. He was a softball umpire, enjoyed catering, was an avid Browns and Tigers fan, traveler and concert aficionado.
He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed each day. Bob had an infections laugh, enjoyed people, telling jokes and spending time with friends and family. He also had great affection for his dogs, Tasha, Boomer and Ella.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Anne, sons, Robert III (Deena Ireland), Christopher; brothers, Edward and Dennis. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Averie and Lil’ Rob, many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews and best friends, Jim Mitchell, Fred Henry and Kent Greenlese. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sister, Deborah; brothers, William and Russell Knappins.
Family and friends may visit Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 from 2-8 p.m. where V.F.W. services will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Lake Twp. Cemetery.
