LaForest, II. L. David, of Flushing, age 75, died Monday, October 17, 2022, at Ascension-Genesys. A Memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2022, at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Prabhu Lakra will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church. Burial of cremated remains will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
David was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 12, 1947, the son of Louis David and Dorothy (Sharp) LaForest. He married Janet Rzadca on March 7, 1970, at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Wyandotte, Michigan. David proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was an active member of the Flushing FVW, post 5666 where he served as Commander for many years and ran the Flushing VFW Baseball Program and was a member of the Flushing American Legion. David worked as an Insurance Agent before him and his Janet co-owned and operated their own agency, LaForest Agency in downtown Flushing. He had been active in the Flushing Chamber of Commerce, serving as President and being named as Citizen of the Year. David was also involved in the Fenton Moose Lodge and was a life-long member of the Flushing Historical Society. He played many sports in his younger years, coached basketball at St. Robert and was avid sports fan, especially U of M sports. David also enjoyed listening to music. He worked at the Genesee County Drain Commission for 16 years before contracting Covid in March of 2021.
David will be missed by his wife, Janet; children, Jennifer (Jerry) Nickels, Lesley LaForest, Allison (Chad Lane) LaForest; grandchildren, Mike (Skyler), Katie, Gracie, Maggie, Kayla, Belle; and siblings, Rick LaForest, Terri Styles, Patricia Duncan. David was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Randy and Frank LaForest; and mother-in-law, Mary Rzadca.
We would like to give a heartfelt thank to all the doctors and nurses at Ascension who took care of him during this difficult time.
