BIDLEMAN, Derek John– of Burton, MI, age 54, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021. A Memorial Visitation will be held at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison on Thursday, December 30, 2021 from 4-7 PM. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
Derek was born in Traverse City, MI, on May 17, 1967, son of the late John Kenneth and Nancy Margaret (Lehrbass) Bidleman. Raised on a cherry farm in Suttons Bay, MI, Derek left his hometown for college life at Ferris State University. Looking for a little adventure, he enlisted in the Navy as an intelligence specialist and served aboard the aircraft carrier, the John F. Kennedy, during 1990-91 Persian Gulf War. During this time in the Navy, Derek met his bride, Susan Louise Judy and married on May 27, 1989 in his family’s cherry orchard. Along with his sweet smile and quirky sense of humor, Derek was the ultimate problem solver and Mr. Fix-it. He could “MacGyver” any piece of broken equipment instead of buying a new one, but only he would know how to operate it.
Derek will be missed by all, especially his wife, Susan of Burton; his children, Helena, Jacob, Mary and William Bidleman of Burton; his sister, Becket Korson of Windsor, Missouri and so many other loving family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tobin Lee Bidleman and infant sister, Rebecca Ann Bidleman.
