SINSEL, Shirley Jean – age 81, formerly of Grand Blanc passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 21, at Brookdale Trillium Crossing Senior Living in Columbus, Ohio.
Shirley was born on November 4, 1939 in Preston County, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Otis E. and Josephine M. (Abernathy) Sell. She married James C. Sinsel on June 7, 1958 in Oakland, Maryland and, subsequently moved to the Flint area, where they resided until 2017.
Mrs. Sinsel is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, James of Columbus; their daughter, Amy Jo, and husband Joseph Michtich of Delaware, Ohio; two very special grandsons, Michael Michtich of Grapevine, Texas and Luka Michtich; sister, Sandra “Sas” Cassady of Lancaster, Ohio; nieces Traci (Wayne) Bunce of Henderson, Nevada and Terri Cassady Eads of Lancaster, Ohio; as well as many loved nieces and nephews from her husband’s family.
Shirley graduated from Philippi High School in Philippi, West Virginia in 1957. Education was extremely important to her, but unfortunately, she was unable to attend university. However, she had a successful career with General Motors, where she was employed for 26 years across various accounting and leadership roles.
She retired in 1993, allowing her and her husband to winter in Las Vegas - fine-tuning her video poker skills, work temporarily as a contract auditor across both the US and Canada, enjoying regular Friday night dinners with friends, crocheting, and visiting with her grandsons frequently. Shirley was an attentive caregiver until the end for her dear husband who suffers from Parkinson’s.
Mrs. Sinsel attended the Bristol Road Church of Christ while living in Michigan, enjoying their online services during her later years. In 2017, Shirley and her husband moved to Harrisonburg, Virginia, and ultimately, Columbus to be closer to family.
Graveside services for all family and friends will be held at 1 PM Monday, April 26, 2021 at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery, 2020 E. Hill Rd, Grand Blanc.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the American Heart Association in memory of the deceased.
