Drost, John R. of Flushing, Michigan, took his final journey from this earth on September 2, 2023, at age 92.
He was born in San Diego, California on January 2, 1931. He was the third son of Dutch immigrants, father, Alexander Hugo Drost and mother, Cornella Johanna Petronella Meeuwig Drost. He entered an apprenticeship at GM (Chevy in the Hole) in January 1951. In November 1951 he enlisted in the Army for three years. On return he finished his four year apprenticeship as a tool & die maker. He worked for GM for 37 years and retired in February 1987.
He married Ursula Riedel of Germany. Together they raised 4 children: Steven J. Drost and wife Tracy of Flint, Michigan, Diane M. Stenko and husband James of Frankfort, Michigan, William Drost and wife Patty of Arizona, and Susan Drost of Flint, Michigan. He found a partner whom he shared his love of life with- friend and companion, Leonita J. Hinterman, whom he married on October 29, 1982. He and Leonita loved to travel. They went to all the states but three, including Alaska and Hawaii, and also went to the Caribbean. For 27 years they would spend six months in Florida.
In addition to his children and wife, Leonita, he leaves behind his grandchild, Beth; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Anthony, and Alexis; step-children, Charles and wife Sandy, Dennis and wife Tracey, Lorraine and husband John, Timothy and wife Kim, and Diane; 19 step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Edward Powell and wife Mary; and step-niece and nephew, Adam and Deonna.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Nel Myers, William Drost, Edward Drost, Viola Patridge, and Margaret Claffey; and sister-in-law, Janet Drost.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Springvale Assisted Living. Their love, kindness, support, and hard work is, and was, truly appreciated as you continue to care for their mom.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 14, 2023, at St. Robert Catholic Church in Flushing. Visitation will be Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial to follow at Sunset Hills. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Robert Catholic Church. |
