HILGRIS, William W. – of Clio, age 77, died on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Covenant HealthCare of Saginaw. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 4PM on Friday, November 26, 2021, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Pastor Jerry Mowl officiating. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday from 1PM until the time of service at 4PM. Inurnment will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clio Area Human Services Fund, Old Newsboys of Flint, or the veteran’s organization of your choice.
William was born September 27, 1944, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Thomas and Mildred (Wright) Hilgris. He graduated from Clio High School in 1963. William married Susan Taylor on August 28, 1971, in Oak Grove, Michigan. Mr. Hilgris is a U.S. Army Vietnam War Veteran, serving from 1965 until 1966 with the 1st Calvary Division (Airmobile), Battery C, 1st Battalion. He retired from General Motors – Buick in 1995 with 30 years of service. William attended Bethany United Methodist Church in Clio. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, VVA, 1st Calvary Association, Forty + Eight, Gleaners, and the 77th Artillery Association. William enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching wildlife and his 1964 Buick convertible. He also enjoyed watching classic tv shows and football, crossword and jigsaw puzzles. William was passionate about helping veterans get their benefits. He loved his black cats – Midnight and Jazzy, and his special cat, Buddie. Above all, William loved his family and supporting his children and grandchildren in all their activities.
Surviving are: Wife, Susan Hilgris; Children: Thomas (Stephanie) Hilgris II, Jennifer (Frank) Sokola, and W. Ryan (Gayle) Hilgris; 8 grandchildren: Allen Hendon (Charlie), Thomas R. Hilgris III (Tham), Alexander Hilgris, Nathaniel Badgett (Anna), Allison Sokola, Collin Sokola, Keller Besso, and June Hilgris; Sister In law, Victoria (Edward) Hilgris; Several nieces and nephews. The family extends a special thank you to the O’Hearn family and Daphne Smith for their great support during this time. William was preceded in death by: Brother, Edward Hilgris; Sister, Anita Gail Bullock; In laws: Casper and Marjorie Taylor; Bonus daughter, Mollie O’Hearn; Bonus grandson, Shawn O’Hearn.
