Woods Roland, age 77, of Flushing, MI was welcomed into Heaven on Tuesday, April 12, 2022. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Rossell Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday and 3 p.m. until time of service on Tuesday. Pastor J.J. Mannschreck and Pastor Bill Christensen officiating. Cremation will follow. Donations can be made to Flushing United Methodist Church in his memory.
Roland was born in Flint, MI on September 30, 1944, the son of Leslie and Lucille Woods. He graduated from Flint Southwestern High School in 1962, and Western Michigan University in 1970, with two degrees, one in teaching and one in business. Roland was joined in marriage to Linda Lawrence on April 18, 1970. He was a driving instructor for the Flint Post Office for 32 years, retiring in 2008. He also privately taught drivers training for 15 years. He loved reading with his grandchildren and helping them with schoolwork. Roland also loved gardening, singing in choirs, collecting rocks, arrowheads, and coins. He sang in the choir and performed in musicals at Trinity Assembly of God in Mt. Morris, MI for many years. One of his joys was visiting the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir with them. More recently, he sang in the choir and with quartets at the Flushing United Methodist Church. Roland was a great friend to many people.
He is survived by wife, Linda Woods; children, Sabra (Derek) Goodrich, Eric Woods, Rebekah Woods, and Matthew (Alexis) Woods; sister, Vickie (Chris) Pettiti; brother, Ray (Darlene) Woods; sisters-in-law, Emily (Bill) Woods, and Sherry (Wayne) Woods; grandchildren, Kade, Toby, Lillian, Bryce, Alexis, Grant, Eliza, Hudson, Bennett; and many nieces, nephews, and granddogs. Roland was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Lucille Woods; brothers, Harold, Earl, Bill, Wayne, Gary; daughter-in-law, Jessica Wenzlick-Woods.
Roland wished to send special thanks to daughter-in-law, Alexis for the exceptional care she gave him along with son, Matthew and nurse, Audra Harrison from Kindred Hospice.
