Roman, Robert J. “Bob”- of Clio, age 82, died Monday, January 17, 2022. Honoring his wishes, cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Don O’Guinn will be officiating. The family will receive visitors Friday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm and on Saturday from 12:00 pm until the time of service. The family is requiring for those attending services to please wear masks. Memorial contributions can be made to The Whaley Children’s Center.
Bob was born August 8, 1939, in Flint, Michigan to the late Robert and Joyce (Smith) Roman. He graduated from St. Agnes High School in 1959. Bob married Sharon Merry on July 15, 1961, spending 60 wonderful years together. Bob attended St. John Vianney Catholic Church and was a previous member of St. Roberts Catholic Church. Bob worked for General Motors for 41 years, starting his career assembling Chevrolet Corvairs at the Willow Run Plant in Ypsilanti before moving in 1965 to the Buick Engine Plant 36 in Flint. He spent most of his years serving as a UAW Local 599 elected official including District Committeeman, Shop Committeeman and Recording Secretary.
He was a previous member of the Rotary Club of Clio and St. Agnes Alumni; served on the Board of Security Federal Credit Union; and was involved in Easterseals in Flint. He enjoyed giving back to his community and helping many organizations, especially coordinating golf tournament fundraisers. Bob was very active throughout his life playing softball, bowling, hunting, fishing, and golfing, which he was playing three times a week up until last year. He enjoyed the outdoors and watching many sports. Bob was a scorekeeper for the Fenton High School and Bendle High School football teams for a combined 20 years. Most important to Bob was his family and friends including his best friend, Bob Latesky. He had several friend groups that he would regularly visit or check-in on including his neighbors, golfing buddies, union colleagues, classmates, and weekly coffee time with the “cops”. He especially enjoyed watching all his grandchildren’s many school sports and music activities. Above all, he will be greatly missed by many.
Surviving are: Wife, Sharon Roman; Children: Rhonda (Ronald Drzewicki) Barber, Brian Roman, Carla (Dennis) Reinhart and David (Kerry) Roman; Grandchildren: Meghan Crane, Adam Barber, Nicholas (Megan) Barber, Jared Barber, Kayla (Dan) Tousley, Chanse Setzke, Jacob Roman, Andrew Roman and Riley Roman; Great grandson: Cody Roman Jr; Siblings: Sally (Delbert) Gauthier, Denny (Kaaren) Roman and Mike (Bonnie) Roman.
