SHADWICK, DICK L. of Flint, passed away at the age of 84 on Thursday, January 25, 2024, peacefully, at his home surrounded by his family. Dick was born in Flint, Michigan on December 10, 1939, to the late Roy and Winnie (Story) Shadwick. As a teenager he began working at Howard’s Standard Service and then Comber’s Market where he met the love of his life, Catherine Gilroy. Dick began his apprenticeship in1959. He was hired by General Motors as a tool and die maker in August of 1960 where he retired in 1999.
Dick and Catherine married on June 17, 1961, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Flint, and celebrated over 62 years of marriage.
Dick loved playing on his pool and golf leagues and was an avid NASCAR fan. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an excellent storyteller and enjoyed making others laugh.
Dick is survived by his wife, Catherine, his three children, Richard and wife, Kimberly Shadwick, Laura Gualdoni and Deborah Lambert; six grandchildren, Devon Shadwick, Amber Payne, Zachariah Gualdoni, Tyler Shadwick, Jeremiah Gualdoni, and Ireland Lambert; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara Gunnels.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 29, 2024, at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Dr. Max B. Hayden officiating. Cremation will take place following the service, with burial at a later date in Blaine Township Cemetery, Benzie County, MI. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. Visitation will take place beginning at 12 p.m. Monday until the time of service at the funeral home.
