John H. Schmidt Jr.
Age 84, of Flint formerly of Owosso passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
Funeral services will be held 4pm Monday, October 20th at the Nelson-House Funeral Home, with Rev. Ray Strawser officiating. The family will welcome friends for visitation at the funeral home from 11 AM until the time of service.
John was born on February 21, 1941, in Owosso, to John and Imalda (Lombardi) Schmidt.
He proudly graduated from Flint Northern High School in the class of 1960.
A passionate race car enthusiast, John enjoyed everything from building his own cars to racing stock cars at Owosso Speedway, Dixie Speedway and Auto City Raceway where he reigned several years throughout his racing career as champion of his racing class.He was a devoted fan of NASCAR and the Detroit Lions. John looked forward to his annual trips to the casino. Above all, John cherished his family.
John dedicated many years to his career at General Motors, where he excelled as a Tool and Die Maker.
He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Michelle Schmidt; grandchildren, Tiffany Hambey and Tori Reagan; great-grandchild, Nikita Hambey; along with several nieces, nephews, and many other loving family members and friends.
John was predeceased by his parents.
