BAKSA, Joseph S. – of Mt. Morris, MI, age 92, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024, with his beloved family at his side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM, Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5199 Richfield Road, Flint, MI 48506; Rev. Fr. Roy Horning, celebrant. Interment will take place following the Mass in Great Lakes National Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 11AM-2 PM and 4-6 PM on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423 and 10 AM until the time of Mass on Thursday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A Scripture Service will be held 6 PM, Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Joseph’s name.
Joseph Stephen Baksa was born in Flint on July 10, 1932, son of Joseph and Jennie (Bodnar) Baksa. He proudly served his country with the United States Army from 1952 until 1954. Joe married Murlene “Chris” Hoover on September 27, 1958, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Flint. They were married 58 wonderful years until she preceded him in death on May 28, 2017. Joe worked as a forklift driver at AC Spark Plug. He retired with more than 35 years of service. Joe was a talented woodworker and cabinet maker. He was often found in his workshop creating many beautiful pieces that were enjoyed by many family members and friends. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping at various places in Michigan. He loved to go fishing, especially fly fishing, even making his own flies. Joe also enjoyed hunting with his nephews and brother. Morel mushroom hunting was his favorite springtime hobby. Joe was an avid bowler. He was a long-time member of the American Legion Post 64. Family was vitally important to Joe. He loved to participate in family reunions, birthday parties and other family gatherings during the holidays.
Joe is survived by two children, Kim (Mark) Edwards and Todd Baksa; beloved canine companion, Dio and feline friend, Genny; sister, Mary (Ed) Chalut; many other loving family members and friends. In addition to his parents and his wife, Joe was preceded in death by sisters, Rose Arnes and Pat Clor; brothers, Bobby and George Baksa.
