HEMPEL, Eva Neda (Denason) – of Davison, MI, age 87, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 PM Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 North Dayton Street, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski celebrant. Interment immediately following the Mass in St. John Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 3-8 PM Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423 and 12-1 PM Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Building Fund or St. Joseph Mercy Home Care and Hospice, in Eva’s memory.

Eva was born in Flint, MI on October 14, 1934, daughter of the late Mate and Neda (Nicolac) Denason. She was a graduate of Bendle High School Class of 1951. During her time at Bendle, Eva was a multi-sport Varsity athlete, cheerleader, a student government representative, and a social leader. After graduation, she helped organize Class Reunions and a monthly classmate lunch at a local diner. She bowled for many years in various Flint area leagues, forming lifelong friendships. Eva was a longtime employee and partner of Genesee Cut Stone & Marble Co. During 43 years of employment at GCSM, Eva helped modernize and grow not only the Accounting Department, but all aspects of the company. She was influential in hiring many of the key employees and future partners. Eva was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. For many years, while her daughter was a student at St John grade school, she spearheaded the children’s games at the annual St. John Parish Festival.

Eva is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Paul and her husband, Bob, who was like a son to Eva; 4 nieces, Diane (Dave) Brown, Lisa Houser, Monicka (Sam) Awad and Leslie Johnson; 5 nephews, Jack (Katherine) Hempel, David (Mari) Hempel, Dr. Christopher (Kris) Johnson, M.D., Erick (Marian) Hempel and Robert (Carol) Hempel; numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews; special adopted family of Mary and Robert Paul, Jr., their children and grandchildren who were a bonus family to her; special friend, Marge Cardinal; many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mate and Neda Denason; sister, Mary Ellen Johnson; dearest friend and partner, Donald J. Terrian; niece, Karen Aurand; 2 nephews, Bill Hempel and Karl Hempel.

Eva was a force of nature that will be greatly missed, but her influence and love will last forever.
