Randall Louis Thompson "Randy", was born in Flint, Michigan on July 6, 1955. He passed away at home listening to his favorite music, on October 2, 2024.
Randy celebrated 9 years cancer free on May 10, 2024. In 2018, he was diagnosed with a rare dementia-Posterior Cortical Atrophy. Dementia chipped away at him until there was no more of the Randy we all knew. Compassus Hospice made him comfortable the last 2 weeks of his life as dementia was taking Randy from those who loved him. With joyful sadness, we let him go.
He was a resident of East Tawas, Michigan, formerly from Grand Blanc, Michigan and Charleston, South Carolina. He was a proud member of Grand Blanc High School class of 1973. Randy loved his Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and Michigan Wolverines. He was a Golden Gloves boxer - Novice Champion 1974 and Outstanding Novice 1975. Randy worked many jobs throughout his lifetime. His favorite jobs were working at Marble Plus and CGI in Charleston, South Carolina. Randy loved to tell stories about his escapades throughout his life. One story that he referred to as "The Caro County Jail Incident" led to him choosing sobriety. Though his brother John says he never found joy in sobriety until he met Mary Lou.
He and Mary Lou Peacock were united in love on July 22, 2023, after he romantically proposed by saying "I wouldn't mind if we got married." He is survived by Mary Lou and her children Bobby and Katy; his mother Georgia; brother John; sisters Vickie, Laurie (Mark), Lisa (Steve), Missy (Ricky); dear friend Laura; nieces Tracey, Tara, Jillian, Kasey, and Jody; nephews Ian, Andy, and Bryan; several great nieces and nephews.
Randy was preceded in death by his father Leon; brothers Bruce and Gary; infant sisters Cynthia and Tracey; and a nephew Mark. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, October 18, 2024 at 2:00 PM at St. John's Episcopal Lutheran Church in Oscoda with Pastor Tom Barbret officiating.
