Deborah Denise Pokora, a lifelong resident of Flushing, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.
Funeral service will be held 11am Monday, November 24, 2025, at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Father Christian Salata officiating.
Visitation 4-7pm Sunday and 10am Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Burial in Flushing Cemetery.
Born on August 4, 1952, to Gerald and Betty Way, Debbie devoted her life to family and community education.
Debbie taught in Flushing Community Schools for over 30 years, inspiring countless students with her energy and creativity. A proud graduate of Michigan State University, she enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially Detroit Tigers baseball and her beloved Spartan basketball and football teams. Known for her supreme organization and passion for reading and wordplay, she brought dedication and care to everything she did.
She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas; her children, Stephen Pokora (Celeste) and Stephanie Reed (Ben); her mother, Betty Way; her sister, Leslie Chapman; her brother, Nelson Way (Amy); and her cherished grandchildren, Brenner, Jacob, Ethan, Grace, and Luke.
Debbie is preceded in death by her father, Gerald Way, and her brother-in-law, James Chapman.
Above all, Debbie loved her family. She made every birthday, holiday, and special occasion a celebration - meticulously organized and full of special touches. She is greatly missed by all that knew her.
