Noah Nehemiah Jaster, 16, of New Lothrop, Michigan, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, August 22 as a result of a brain aneurysm. He told his parents of a sudden and intense headache, and within five minutes, he became unresponsive. Despite emergency care in two hospitals, he never regained consciousness.
Nehemiah (meaning “God Has Comforted”) was born on June 6, 2005, in Grand Blanc, Michigan, the second son of Ronald and Doris Jaster – investment adviser and homemaker/home-school mom, respectively. Nehemiah had six siblings: Josiah, the first-born; Amy, with whom he is now reunited in Heaven; David; twins Stephen and Timothy; and Elianna. Outside his faithful family, Nehemiah was immersed in the Christian community at church, as a home-schooled student, and as a years-long participant of the National Bible Bee.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of 13, and a year later obeyed the Lord’s command to be baptized.
Nehemiah was blessed to be raised in a loving family. When Nehemiah was seven years old, and having five boys at that time, Ron and Doris felt led to move the family to a farm in New Lothrop to instill hard work ethic into their sons. Nehemiah learned to value and eventually love hard work, even the milking! He had recently completed eleventh grade studies, and excelled in math. He loved forensics; marveled at God’s handiwork in biology and chemistry; and was scheduled to receive his driver’s license when he died. Among his life dreams were possible service in ministry, and supporting missionaries wherever, and however he felt God’s leading.
One of Nehemiah’s consistent joys was attending the Men’s Ministry Meetings with his dad and
younger brother David on Tuesday nights at Immanuel Baptist Church, training to prepare effective sermons and be godly leaders. The larger Jaster family are musically talented and active, and Nehemiah, no exception, played piano to David’s cello; the violin with David; and piano duets.
Farm life encourages community and family interaction, but Nehemiah also enjoyed game nights with his younger siblings, or basketball and outdoor sports. Most Sunday afternoons meant making homemade ice cream from the farm’s fresh cow’s milk. Visiting his Canadian cousins and Oma and Opa Nimz included the three-year cycle of “Camp-Nimz” family reunions with
Mom’s side of the family. The Jasters also enjoy family vacations to all points of the compass, as well as trips planned around National Bible Bee events.
Nehemiah had made plans to rejoin the Wissmann family in Milford, Nebraska, this Fall, continuing to learn from them how to run a successful business, installing irrigation systems and pipelines for watering crops. It would have been his return to Milford where Nehemiah had become loved as a native son.
At his baptism, 14-year-old Nehemiah humbly testified, “Through the Bible Bee, I have really grown to love God’s Word and especially studying it. But in addition to that, I need to desire a close relationship with Jesus. You could pray for me that I keep drawing closer to Jesus and love spending time with Him more than anything else in the world.”
Friends and family members who know and love Nehemiah unequivocally can say that in the subsequent two years, God faithfully answered those prayers. In coming November 2021 Nehemiah would have attended his fifth qualified National Bible Bee. Beyond Bible memorization, however, he dedicated himself to motivate and inspire others. And he similarly applied the truths he learned from God’s Word to his own life, spending time with Jesus, and ever drawing closer to Him.
Nehemiah is survived by his five siblings, Josiah, David, Stephen, Timothy, and Elianna; his parents Ron and Doris; many cousins, aunts, and uncles; his grandmother Benita Jaster, who lives on the family’s farm; and Opa and Oma, Hans-Dietrich and Edeltraut Nimz, Doris’ parents from Ontario, Canada. Grieving his loss are also many friends from the Davison Church of God; the Elms Road Church of God; Immanuel Baptist Church, and his Bible Bee Community of friends.
The Viewing will take place from 4-7 pm on Friday, August 27, 2021, and 9:30-10:30 am on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Immanuel Baptist Church at 2680 E M 21, Corunna, MI 48817.
