Rosalie Kish, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the age of 92 on July 3, surrounded by her devoted family. She was born to Eva (Novoth) and Louis Mandreky who immigrated from Hungary as children in the early 1900s. A lifelong resident of Flint, she attended St. Mary School and Northern High School, graduating in 1948. As a young girl, she played piano and later, the organ. As a teenager she worked in her parent’s restaurant, the Hungarian Village. In 1950 she married the love of her life, Joseph Kish of Detroit, Michigan and began their family of four children, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Rose had a magnetic, vivacious personality. She made friends wherever she went. Her superpower was caring for those around her, making them feel included and loved. Her family was the primary focus of her life and she was the center of their universe. Home was wherever Rose was, especially at holidays. She excelled at cooking classic Hungarian dishes and baking Hungarian pastries and tortes. Nothing brought more joy to Rose than her grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She was a regular volunteer at their schools in Lapeer and never missed a dance recital.
During her professional career, Rose served as a medical and dental assistant. She was an active member of several church clubs throughout her life, as a president of the Immaculata Club of St. Leo, a member of the Daughters of Isabella and secretary of the St. Joseph Hungarian Club of Blessed Sacrament, where she was blessed with many life-long friendships. She enjoyed her final years at Vicinia Gardens where she treasured her new friends and neighbors.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Joe, her parents, Eva and Louis and her brother, George Mandreky. She is survived by her children, Gina Kish of Scituate, MA, Joseph L. (Kathryn) Kish of Winnetka, IL, Valerie Kish, and Susan Wendel, both of Davison, MI; her grandchildren, Tony (Alyson) Wendel of Kentwood, MI, Autumn Coulter and her daughter Faith, of Burton, MI, Jay Kish of Missoula, MT and Nick Kish of Winnetka IL; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10AM Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 6336 Roberta St., Burton, MI 48509, Rev. Fr. Andrew Czajkowski, celebrant.
