Roy was born March 19, 1932, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Otto and Alma (Polman) Hastedt. He graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1950. In the summer of 1957, Roy wed his beloved wife, Emily. Their marriage bond served as an inspiration to all who knew them. Roy retired as a draftsman from AC Spark Plug. Roy's faith was an integral part of his life, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Flint and later at Mt. Sinai Lutheran Church. He devotedly served as an Elder at his churches.
Beyond his professional and spiritual endeavors, Roy enjoyed an active and fulfilling life. He was a respected member of the Flushing Roadrunners Square Dance Club, where he forged lifelong connections. Additionally, Roy's passion and talent for photography found expression in his membership of the Camera Club. An adventurous spirit, Roy reveled in the simplicity of life's pleasures. Whether it was embarking on drives, exploring new destinations, or indulging in a square dance, he was always enthusiastic about embracing new experiences. However, above all else, Roy treasured his family. As "Mr. Fix it," he was always ready to lend a helping hand, ensuring that every problem found a solution. More than anything he was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, and friend who will be missed by many.
