Mary Ann Sullivan-Abendschein, of Flushing, Michigan, age 71, died suddenly at home on Sunday, November 28, 2021. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 6, 2021 at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Jonathan Perrotta will officiate. Cremation to follow. Burial at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Monday at church until the time of the Mass. A live-stream of the service can be viewed on the Rossell Funeral Home Facebook page. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Flushing Christian Outreach Center.

Mary Ann was born in Flint, Michigan on March 15, 1950 to George and Mildred (Costello) Sullivan. She graduated Salutatorian from Flint Southwest High School in 1968 and earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor’s nursing program. She married William Abendschein on September 17, 1983. Her career started at F.O.H. hospital in Flint as an employee health nurse until she then took a position with the Shiawassee Co. Health Department. She then took a position with Mott Community College as one of the nurses running their clinic. Mary Ann loved to travel with her husband, especially taking many cruises and visits to Northern Michigan. She loved the arts and was a season ticket holder of the Flint Symphony Orchestra, member of the Flint Institute of Music, Flint Institute of Art, and attended the Ann Arbor Art Fair 50 years in a row. She was a member of the U of M Alumni Association and enjoyed water aerobics at the YMCA. She will forever be remembered as helpful, joyful person willing to help anybody at any time.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 38 years, William; siblings, Susan Sullivan (Steve) and John (Stacy) Sullivan; sister-in-law, Cindy (Al) Zak; nieces, Sarah Sullivan (Mark) and Lisa (Erick) Lopata; great nieces and nephews, Josie Sullivan-Bowden, Jamie Lopata, Penny Lopata, and one great-nephew on the way; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family requests that everyone attending the service please wear a mask.
