HARPER, Sarah E.- Of Grand Blanc, formerly of Flint, age 100, died Monday, August 18, 2014 at Hurley Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 2014 at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 9020 South Saginaw Road in Grand Blanc, The Reverend George L. Cleaves, Jr. and Reverend Robert Wright officiating. Private burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to Court Street United Methodist Church or The Flint Symphony. Visitation 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. Friday at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Mrs. Harper will be at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Mrs. Harper was born in Flint, Michigan on September 18, 1913 and was a resident of Flint and Grand Blanc all of her life. She married Dr. R. Homer Harper on October 8, 1938 in Flint, and he preceded her in death on October 22, 1983. She graduated from Flint Central High School in 1931 and attended Albion College, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Mrs. Harper was a former member of Oak Park Methodist Church and taught the junior church for 36 consecutive years. She was currently a member of Court Street United Methodist Church, The Flint Symphony, The Flint Institute of Arts, past President of the Genesee County Medical Alliance and Chairman of the Board of the Stepping Stone Program. Surviving are her 3 daughters: Elizabeth M. Carpenter of Harbor Springs; Sarah E. "Sally" Swartz of Grand Blanc; M. Ann and husband John Briggs of Grand Blanc; 4 grandchildren: Robert H. (Cynthia) Carpenter; Richard H. Kuehnle and fiance, Erin Tilley; Ernest W. (Nancy)Carpenter; Jennifer E. Kuehnle (Philip E.G. Whitmore); 5 great-granddaughters: Paige A. Kuehnle; Sarah W. Summers; Elizabethe H. Carpenter; Quinn R. Carpenter; Amara G. Whitmore and 1 great-grandson: Kevin F. Carpenter; brother, Milton B. Pollock of Livonia; many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Elizabeth M. Pollock; 3 brothers, Alexander S. Pollock; Stuart W. Pollock; Bruce G. Pollock and son-in-law, Harry C. Swartz.
