Jim passed away Friday, October 8, 2021 at his home, age 76. He was born August 6, 1945 in Los Angeles, California to the late Albert and Arlene (Kidder) Seelye. He was a veteran and served his country with the US Army as a paratrooper during the Vietnam Era. Jim was a Detective Sergeant with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department for more than 28 years and was Chairman of the Shriners Crippled Children’s Committee many years ago. He was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish-St. Stanislaus Church in Bay City, also a 3rd Degree Brother Knight and Past Grand Knight of St. Stanislaus Knights of Columbus Council #12423, 4th Degree Sir Knight with Bishop Murphy Assembly #0491 and Color Corps. Jim stayed very active with the Knights of Columbus until some health issues prevented him from volunteering as much as he wanted to. He loved hunting and traveling out to Wyoming.
Left to carry on his legacy are his three children: Teresa (Jason) VanKuren, Kimberly Melton and Jim (Emily) Seelye, Jr., six grandchildren: Carri, Lee, Carr, Autumn, Abby and Audrey, and four great grandchildren: Kennedy, Jenson, Julian and Saffyre. Jim was predeceased by two grandchildren, Matt and Macy.
The Funeral Mass for Jim will be celebrated Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish-St. Stanislaus Church, 1503 Kosciuszko Ave., Bay City, MI 48708. Military Honors, under the Bay County Veterans Honor Guard and the US Army will be held immediately after Mass in the church plaza. Private interment will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. Friends may call at Ambrose Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and at church on Wednesday after 10:00 AM. A 3rd Degree Bible presentation and 4th Degree Chalice presentation will be held Tuesday evening at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
