Ralph "Rotten" Jones, age 85, of Lapeer, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2024, with his loving family and his friend / caregiver Dee by his side. He was born in Lapeer on September 15, 1938, to Howard & Marguerite (Turner) Jones. Ralph graduated from Lapeer High School, class of 1956.
On May 16, 1959, he married the love of his life, Karen Springsteen. Ralph worked at several places throughout his life, Paul Engle Heating, Gwinn's Ace Hardware in Lapeer, Sherwin Williams in Lapeer, Irv Woodward Chevrolet as a parts manager, and he retired from Knollwood Clinic as a Maintenance / Housekeeping Supervisor. He was a life member of Lapeer Firelocks, where he earned the nickname Rotten Ralph. He was also in the Lapeer County Mounted Posse for several years.
Ralph is survived by his daughters Shelley Chapman of Lapeer and Sharon (Andy) Anstett of Lapeer. Papa to Stacey (Steve) Mercier and Stephanie (Steve) Manning; Great-Papa to Brendan Mercier, Dylan (Leticia Martinez) Mercier, and Ashlyn Sider; brother Howard (Milena) Jones of Homassa, FL; brother-in-law Bob (Marcia) Springsteen of The Villages, FL; his faithful companions Sassy Bossy Aussie and Sally Maye; also numerous friends and extended family.
Ralph was preceded in death by his wife Karen of 62 years; son-in-law Mike Chapman in 2014; his aforementioned parents; his in-laws Earl & Marian Springsteen.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, from 1-5 PM at Lynch & Sons Funeral Directors - Capstick Chapel in Lapeer. A Celebration of Life service will be held in February. Memorial donations may be made to Lapeer Firelocks, 10145 Elms Rd. Montrose, MI 48457 or Paradise Animal Rescue. |
