Louise Emma Matheson, age 82, of Lapeer, formerly of Davison, died Wednesday, September 15, 2021. She was born March 29, 1939 in Flint to Arthur Lee and Dorothea Ernestine (Wojahn) Ulman.
Louise graduated in 1956 from Davison High School and married D. Herbert Matheson on August 17, 1957 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Davison. Mr. and Mrs. Matheson joined St. Paul Lutheran Church in 1963 and have been devoted, active members every since. After her girls became older, Louise took a job with Lapeer Parks and Recreation Department. She first worked at the old “Boys Club” in Lapeer, than playing an integral role when the Lapeer Community Center opened. Louise was truly a euchre “Card Shark”! She played locally at the Moose Lodge, American Legion, Eagles Club, Elk Club, Senior Center and all family functions. The grandchildren all wanted to be on grandma’s team playing euchre, because "she always won!”. Louise was even known to win a little money from her friends and family playing euchre. Mrs. Matheson loved to travel, she went all over the country with various travel clubs: she had been to the Tulip Festival in Holland, Alaska, gambling all over, Branson (Missouri), Hawaii, and camping with family “out west”. Louise had been active “beating friends” at euchre until just a couple weeks ago, she was a “Character”! Mrs. Matheson was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Louise is survived by her daughters: Carla Ziesmer of Lapeer, Cindy (Mark Miller) Niles of Byron and Christine (James) Woods of Lapeer; her dear “special children”: the Schlaud family; grandchildren: Christopher: (Jen) McArthur, Lewis (Shannon) Ziesmer, Derek Schlaud, Nikole (John Bate) Woods, Kody Woods and Jordan (Fiance Ryan Springsteen) Woods; great-grandchildren: Kenadie, Presley, Emma and Everleigh; and sister: Mary Ulman of Flint. She was preceded in death by her husband: Herb Matheson; parents: Arthur and Dorothea Ulman; son: Dennis Matheson; and brothers: Raymond and Norman Ulman.
Visitation will be 4-8PM Thursday, September 16, 2021, at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. Louise’s funeral service will be 11AM Friday, September 17, 2021, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 90 Millville Rd., Lapeer, MI 48446. Pastor Steven Helms will officiate the service, followed immediately by burial in Davison Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran School Library.
