KRUSE, Donald F. – of Elba Twp., age 76, passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2021, at his residence. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be celebrated 11:00 AM, Friday, March 19, 2021 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 90 Millville Road, Lapeer, MI 48446. Pastor Steven Helms will officiate. Family will receive visitors Thursday, March 18, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Friday, March 19, 2021. All visitation is at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lapeer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be considered to Toys for Tots.
Donald Frank Kruse was born in Flint, MI on May 11, 1944, son of the late Christian and Lydia (Lehr) Kruse. He served his country with the US Army. He was an employee at General Motors where he worked as a forklift operator at Buick City. Upon retirement, he spent his years at the family farm located in Elba, MI. He would often be found sitting in his pickup truck in the driveway of the farm, reading a newspaper and drinking coffee with his beloved German Shepherd, Smokie. He always had a flannel shirt on, no matter the weather or the occasion. Donald was known to be rough on the outside, but soft at heart. He loved children and made many farm memories with the Kruse boys throughout the years. His favorite thing to do was haul cattle with them and stop at McDonald’s. He also enjoyed his phone calls with his niece Laura.
Donald is survived by a sister, Mary Borden; sister-in-law, Lisa Kruse; nephews, Ken (Andrea) Kruse, Jim (Melissa) Kruse; nieces, Jackie (Michael) Porter, Julie (Craig) Lewis, Laura (Jason) Hochstedler; great-nieces, Jennifer (Travis) Streich, Emily (Phillip) Curley, Melanie Porter, Katie Porter, Lexi (Mark) Esterline, and Taylor Brown; great-nephews, Kris (Jody) Kruse, Dillon Kruse, Colton Kruse, Landon Kruse, Trenton Kruse, and Mason Kruse. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Kruse and Paul Kruse.
