NEWBURN, Helen M. (Potkan) – of Otisville, MI, age 66, passed away Friday, April 14, 2017 at Genesee Care Center. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, MI 48423. Interment New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 2-8 PM Monday, April 17, 2017 and 10-11 AM Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Allen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Genesee County, in Helen’s memory.
Helen was born in Germany on February 3, 1951, daughter of Helen (Medova) and the late Felix Potkan. She was a graduate of Beecher High School Class if 1969. Helen then earned a Bachelors in Education from the University of Michigan and a Masters in Special Education from Oakland University. She married Ronald Newburn on July 20, 1974. Helen was employed as an educator in the Flint Community Schools Durant-Tuuri-Mott School System, teaching the hearing impaired. She retired in 2011 after 38 years of service. Helen loved traveling, gardening, arts and crafts.
Helen is survived by her husband of 42 years, Ron; sister, Paulina Heslinger; 2 nieces, Natasha Armbruster and Vesta Heslinger; great-niece, Violet Armbruster; great-nephew, Dominic Armbruster; many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Newburn.
