Popovits, Muriel Annette, of Flushing, age 85, died Friday, October 14, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at Rossell Funeral Home. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2022, and at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2022, until the time of the service at 11:00am. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Flushing Library.
Muriel was born in Flint, Michigan on March 24, 1937, the daughter of George and Bernice (Spencer) Morrison. She graduated from Beecher High School in 1955. After her high school sweetheart, Bruce Popovits returned from the Navy, they were married on April 7, 1956. Together they raised five children.
Muriel worked for the Flushing Community Schools for 25 years as a Para Pro and Library Assistant. She was also a talented seamstress, making prom and bridesmaid dresses as well as doll clothes. Muriel enjoyed camping, family vacations and being on the lakeshore where she loved to rock hunt. She loved writing and documented their family adventures, as well as her life story. Muriel was an avid reader and collector of books.
She is survived by her children, Karen & Jeff Herriman, John & Karen Popovits, Mary Ann Cobleigh and Ruthanne Abbott; 12 grandchildren, Scott & Emily Herriman, Sarah Herriman, John & Chrissy Popovits, Matt & Lisa Popovits, Nick & Jen Popovits, Natalie & Eric Little, Josh & Asma Cobleigh, Jacob & Marissa Cobleigh, Emily Cobleigh & Seth Reel, Doug Abbott, Amy Abbott & Greg Abbott. 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce and daughter, Janet Popovits. |
