CROSS, Betty Jean – of Davison, age 95, passed away on Monday, December 7, 2020 at Charter Senior Living of Davison. A Private Graveside Service was held at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery; Pastor Jeremy Peters officiated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Court Street United Methodist Church, 225 W. Court Street, Flint, MI 48502.
Betty was born in Flint, MI on November 9, 1925, daughter of the late Hugh and Dulah Newberry. Betty graduated from Flint Central High School. She married Glenn R. Peters on November 29, 1947 and he preceded her in death on March 30, 1980. Betty was employed at Genesee Bank, Court Street United Methodist Church, and The Flint Board of Education at Zimmerman School, retiring in January of 1977. She married Wayne Cross on January 4, 1986 and moved to his home in Swartz Creek. He preceded her in death. Betty was a lifelong member of Court Street United Methodist Church for 83 continuous years. She was a founding member of the Adult Aldersgate Class and was active in a number of ladies circles. Betty enjoyed spending 6-7 winter months a year (for over 40 years) in Florida, mostly at Ellenton Gardens with her Florida family. While in Michigan for the summers, she loved going to the cottage at Sand Lake with family for the holiday weekends. Betty loved eating chocolate or any dessert, especially popcorn balls for Christmas Eve family get togethers. She loved to travel to Hawaii, Europe, and Northern Michigan. She would win playing “Hand and Foot” with her granddaughters in Florida or Sand Lake. She loved sending cards to everyone for any reason. Betty could not wait for Christmas Eve to watch everyone open gifts after The Traditional Lynn’s Brunch.
Betty is survived by her son, James (Lynn) Peters; grandchildren, Michele (Mike) Clark, Jennifer (Joseph) Mead, Jill (Ryan) Viqenski, Kathleen (Mark) Curtis, Merideth Collins, Elizabeth (Dan) Francis; son-in-law, James Walker; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Mason, Arron, George, Brady, Norah, Edison, Collin, Luke, Henry and John; step-daughter, Janet Feist; step-grandsons, Jeff Cross, Wayne Cross, Amy Callihan and Chad Berndt; sister-in-law, Virginia Peters; great friend, Margaret Abrams. Betty was preceded in death by infant son, John Peters; daughter, Bonnie Walker; step-son, Gary Cross.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at Charter Senior Living in Davison and Heartland Hospice for exceptional care of Betty over the last 2 ½ years.
