Marty Odette

Born: 7/25/1949
Died: 7/30/2021
Age: 72
Community: Sanford, MI

Marty Odette was one of the nice guys, with a kind and gentle soul and an easy smile. He passed away on Friday July 30, 2021, from ischemic heart disease, which was service connected, due to herbicide exposure in Vietnam.

Marty was a proud Army veteran. He honorably served a year in Vietnam and a total of two years in the Army, ending his duty at Ft. Riley, Kansas. He kept in touch with of his Vietnam buddies, Art and Curt.

As a tin knocker (sheet metal worker) he was a Flint JR. College student who went on to do an apprenticeship at Davanay Plumbing and Heating in Flint, then receiving his Journeyman’s card. After leaving Flint, he worked at Lansing Oldsmobile, then to Midland for a job at J.E. Johnson. He was a hard worker, who was great at what he did and loved his work.

Marty, along with his wife Carol, lived a life of commitment to loving one another, to their family and to being good people. In addition to his wife Carol, he is survived by his son Brett; his daughter Stephanie and her husband Sean, along with their children, Alexander, Isis, Isabella, and Artemis, who all held a special place in Marty’s heart. He loved them all dearly and had fun with them always.

Marty is also survived by brothers, Denny, Mark, Tim, and Matt; his sisters, Jeanie and Jacqueline; his many cousins, nieces, nephews; and aunts, Jo and Jackie. Den and Anne, Dale and Karen, Gary and Jan were also great fun as in-laws.
He enjoyed all his family and loved talking to them on the phone, on Facebook, and seeing them when possible and having a beer with them on the porch.

Marty was an avid woodcarver. He loved giving pieces away, and many of his family and friends have some of his work, leaving a forever memory with them.

Marty was a lot of things. He was a husband, a dad, a grandpa, a brother, brother-in-law, a good friend, a teacher, an artist, and above all our HERO.

Marty loved much. He loved being married to Carol, he loved being a dad, a papa. He also loved his 64 Corvette, cruising with his brothers on their Harleys. Even though he “Camped” in Vietnam, he still loved going to Higgins Lake with family and friends. He also loved hanging out with “the gang of 5”, beer, gin and tonics, pizza and sitting by the fire with a brandy in the fall. Loved much and will be missed more.

He now Breathes easy and is with those that went before him. Rest in peace Marty, you are forever loved.

Marty’s family would like to send a big thank out to Heartland Hospice for all their kindness and loving care. Heather, Shannon, Chantel, Cynthia. Doug and all the volunteers were our angels on earth.
