JoAnn Violet Humpula, age 81,
Passed away at home surrounded by her family on December 20, 2023.
She was born on July 27, 1942 in Saginaw county to the late John and Mary (Dabremesel) Bolf. Both her parents were immigrants that came through the Ellis Island to make a new life in America. JoAnn was a 1st generation American which she was proud to share her heritage in her cooking and baking.
JoAnn was the youngest of 15 children and had many stories to tell of her older siblings and growing up on the prairie farm.
She married her high school sweetheart, Jerrold (Jerry) Humpula on August 4, 1962. They bought a 40 acre farm in Maple Grove Township. JoAnn and Jerry's farm became a "return to wildlife habitat" farm. They planted their fields with wildflowers, dug more ponds and planted many trees. The wildlife and beautiful walking trails to be enjoyed. They always planted a large garden, in which JoAnn would can their produce and share them with family and friends.
JoAnn could always be seen at the children and grandchildren's school events. She lovingly became everyone's gram. When JoAnn and Jerry were able to get away, they enjoyed their many trips with their Maple Grove friends to Vegas. They also ventured to Crystal Falls in the UP for a week long fish and camp. Grammy Jo even won many of the fishing contests. She made some great memories up there with their family and their adopted Yooper family.
JoAnn was very crafty and enjoyed sharing her talents as gifts for family and friends. She leaves a wealth of cherished memories for her children, Kyleen Vincke (Sally Steinborn), Jim (Jennifer) Humpula, Jill Humpula (Carl Harris), Kari (Mike) Knieper; grandchildren, Kristen (Jonny) Ellison, Trevor (Rachelle) Vincke, Jarrett Humpula, Grace Borst, Joelle Humpula, Craig Hoskins, Kassondra (Nic) Schneider, Kyle Lare, Connor Birchmeier, Ryley Hafner, Alivia Raleigh, Karley Hafner, Jackson Knieper, Remmington Knieper, and Brody Knieper; great-grandchildren, Everly Ellison, Hank and Marley Vincke; sisters, Betty Holcomb, Mary Elde, and Delores Dankert; in laws, Vickie Daniels, Lenore (Bob) Beckman, Dennis (Bev) Humpula, Roger (Terry) Humpula, Cheryl (Larry) Mouton, Danny (Ann) Humpula, and Tammy (Don) Engler; many nieces, nephews, good friends, John and Janet Byum, and her loyal puppy, Lizzy. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings, John, Paul, Frank, Joe, Louis, Rose, Elizabeth, Eleanor, Annie, Eva, and Katie.
A funeral service will be at McGeehan Funeral Homes, Martin Chapel in Chesaning on Tuesday December 26th at 6pm. The family will receive friends and family from 1pm till the time of service.
Memorial donations may be made to the families wishes. |
