Tripp, Duane F. – of Montrose, age 80, died Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Ascension Genesys in Grand Blanc. A Concelebrated Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 9, 2023, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Montrose. Rev. Fr. Anthony Brooks and Rev. Fr. Prabhu Lakra will officiate. Private burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery on Tuesday, January 10th. The family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose on Sunday, January 8, 2023, from 1-9 PM and at the church on Monday from 10 AM until the time of mass. A private luncheon will be held following mass for family members. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Sunday evening at the funeral home to be followed by a Time of Remembrance with Don O’Guinn, Mike Pyrc, and Brian Persons. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church or the Montrose Veterans Bell Memorial.
Duane was born June 25, 1942, in Shepherd, Michigan, to the late Harry and Mildred (Roberts) Tripp. He graduated from Shepherd High School in 1960. He was a U.S. Army veteran with service in Germany. Duane married Constance Theisen on June 9, 1967. He was employed as a State Farm insurance agent in Montrose for 40 years, retiring in 2012. The Tripps were founding members of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Montrose and Duane was active in several church ministries including youth leader, Eucharistic minister, sacristan, and usher. He was also a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus – Good Shepherd Council 8669. Duane was a 20 year member of the Montrose Blueberry Festival and he and Connie were honored as Blueberry Grand Marshals in 1998. He coached Montrose Little League baseball and played on Men’s softball teams for years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #367 in Montrose. Duane served as the announcer for the Montrose Rams football team for over 39 years. He was honored with a Special Service Award by the Montrose School District in 2012 for his years of service. Duane was also a longtime member of the Montrose Chamber of Commerce. He was honored as M.C. of the Decade by the Chamber and he and Connie were named Distinguished Citizens of the Year. Duane was a charter member of the Montrose Sports and Community Hall of Fame. The Tripps were inducted into the Hall of Fame for Community Service in 2021. Duane joined the staff of O’Guinn Family Funeral Homes in 2012, where he served faithfully in funeral ministry.
Duane is survived by his wife of 55 years, Connie; Children: Gina (Jason) Walker, Marc Tripp, and Brian (Jennifer) Tripp; Grandchildren: Megan Shelton, Tony and Riley Nathaniel, Zachary and Allison Shelton, Ramiro Yarmuth, Emersyn Tripp, Seth and Austin Walker, Olivia and Ava Johnson; Great-grandchildren: Rylan Block, Paxson and Beckett Nathaniel, and Lucy Yarmuth; Sister, Jeanette (Harold) Wilson; Brother, David (Barbara) Tripp; Sister-in-law, Beverly Tripp; In-laws: John and Mary Jo Tobias and Gary and Denise Carroll; Several nieces and nephews; Duane was also preceded in death by his brother, Harry, and sisters, Jean Purtil and Joyce Myers.
