WORTZ, Betty Jane (Taylor) – of Burton, MI, age 90, passed away Monday, May 5, 2025. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Bethel Assembly of God, 6029 Lapeer Road, Burton, MI 48509; Rev. Joseph Lindsay officiating. Interment 11 AM Monday, May 12, 2025 in Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 3-7 PM Friday, May 9, 2025 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423 and 10-11 AM Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Bethel Assembly of God. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Assembly of God, in Betty’s memory.
Betty was born in Inland Township, MI on February 14, 1935, daughter of the late Benjamin and Anita (Stormfeltz) Taylor. She lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to her family, faith, and community. On June 25, 1955, Betty married the love of her life, Rev. Vernon Wortz. Their marriage was one filled with love, faith, and mutual respect. Rev. Wortz preceded her in death on May 12, 2013, leaving behind a lasting legacy of shared ministry and devotion to the Lord. Together, they raised a family and touched countless lives through their ministry. Betty was a woman of many talents. She was a gifted seamstress, baker, and cook, and many of her delicious homemade creations were shared with friends and loved ones. She was an accomplished cake decorator, known for her beautifully crafted cakes that made any celebration special. Her hands also created warmth and comfort, as she crocheted many baby blankets, each one infused with love and care. A devoted member of Bethel Assembly of God, Betty was actively involved in the women’s ministry, where she found joy in serving and nurturing others. She also dedicated time to volunteer at Carriage Town Ministries and served on mission trips to the Dominican Republic and Mexico, where her heart for others shined brightly. Betty’s life was a testament to the power of faith and the joy of giving. She loved traveling with The Calvarymen Gospel Quartet, bowling with friends, and teaching Sunday School. Her heart was always open to new adventures, and her joy was infectious to everyone who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. Betty’s warm presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Betty is survived by her 3 daughters, Debby (Tom) Valentine, Linda Wortz (Richard Winkler) and Rebekah (Earl) Lovejoy; 7 grandchildren, Jason (Melissa) Valentine, Benjamin (Jessica) Valentine, James Cunningham, Jay Bell, Autumn Lyon, Kara Lyon and Keith Lyon IV; 5 great-grandchildren, Natalie Valentine, Hannah Valentine, Seth Valentine, Eli Valentine and Lucy Valentine; 2 brothers, Benjamin (Maxine) Taylor and Wayne Taylor; many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Anita Taylor; husband, Rev. Vernon Wortz; 2 siblings, Rev. Robert (Naomi) Taylor and Geraldine (Dave) Dyke; great-grandson, Zachariah Cunningham.
