Gordon was born in Pontiac, Michigan on May 12, 1922, the son of the late Milo and Emma Rayner. He married Janet Bergquist on June 7, 1945 in Grand Blanc. Gordon graduated from Grand Blanc High School, Class of 1940.
He served as the Class President and was very athletic, particularly in football, basketball and baseball. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the Grand Blanc American Legion and the Farm Bureau. Gordon started his career as a dairy farmer in Grand Blanc in 1940. During his career as a farmer, he also did carpentry, building two homes for his family as well as constructing other homes in the Grand Blanc area. In 1968, Gordon went to work for the United States Postal Service, retiring as Grand Blanc Postmaster in 1986. Gordon was well known for his keen mind and dry sense of humor. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, square dancing, jigsaw puzzles, playing Euchre, and spending time with his family and friends. After a short illness, Gordon spent his last few days doing what he loved most, visiting with many who were close to him.
