Proteau, Frederick “Fred”-of Mt. Morris, formally Durand, age 84, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022, at his residence surrounded by family. Honoring his wishes, cremation will take place. A Celebration of Life will be held at 12PM, Monday, May 16, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Mt. Morris. The family will receive visitors at Church on Monday from 11AM until time of service. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Genesee Humane Society.
Fred was born October 28, 1937, in Marshall, Michigan to the late Aloysius and Marjory (Tooley) Proteau. He attended Olivet High School and graduated with the class of 1956. Fred was a United States Marine Veteran who served from 1956-1962. He worked for the Michigan State Police. Fred was involved in the Flint Police post as a Detective Sergeant for 25 years. He retired from the Michigan State Police in 1990. He was a member of the Troopers Association. Fred enjoyed woodworking, and spending time with his family. He was a very honorable man, and if you knew Fred, he was never mad, and always levelheaded. He was a great husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by many.
Surviving brother: James (Cheryl); Children: Karl (Martha), Candy (Ron), Jeff (Shirley), Jodi (Ron), and Dave (Stacey); Grandchildren: Kaitlyn, John, Aaron (Samantha), Samantha (Derec), Michael (Chelsea), Paige (Chase), Cameron (SeaEra), Dylan (Pamela), McKenna, and Aydan; 8 wonderful great grandchildren plus one on the way.
