Michael William Albaitis, 78, of Lapeer, spent childhood in Ludington, died Tuesday August 29, 2023. He was born April 3, 1945 in Detroit to parents William and Myrtle (Overby) Albaitis. Mike married Cindy (Boller) Buck on September 4, 2009 in Lapeer.
Mr. Albaitis went to barber school and worked as a barber, prior to beginning his career. His career was 37 years with CSX Railroad, as a conductor, retiring in 2005. Michael was known for his sense of humor; he just loved to laugh and have fun. One of his many passions was restoration of cars, tractors and steam locomotives. He really had a gifted ability to troubleshoot and repair anything mechanical. Mike’s heart was enjoying the guitar (playing or listening) and Sunday rides with Cindy and their doxie family. Above all else, he loved being with family.
Mike is survived by his wife: Cindy Albaitis, children: Laura (Craig) Derenne, Steven (Jodi) Albaitis, Tamara (Matthew) MacDonald, Nick (Amanda) Buck, Shannon (Jim) Hall, grandchildren: Jacob, Vinny, Macy, Isabel, Caitlyn, Erica (& Cody) and Madison, brothers: Jim (Linda) Albaitis, Lanny Albaitis as well as him being a doxie daddy to Winnie & Lucy. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the physicians, nurses and staff at McLaren-Lapeer Region as well as a special thanks to family and friends for their love and support. Mr. Albaitis was preceded in death by his aforementioned parents.
Cremation has been entrusted to Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. A celebration of life will be 11:00am Tuesday September 5, 2023 at Muir Brothers. The family will receive family and friends the hour prior (10-11:00am) on Tuesday.
