JOHNS, Bernard J. “Bernie” - of Flushing, age 73, died on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Hurley Medical Center in Flint. Funeral services will be held at 11AM Saturday, December 28, 2024, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Kim Christensen officiating. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Friday from 2PM until 8PM, and on Saturday from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. Cremation will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for future designation.
Bernie was born January 9, 1951, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Bernard and Mary (Wolak) Johns. He graduated from Flushing High School with the class of 1969. Bernie Married Kathleen Ocenasek on February 9, 1990, in Flushing. He retired from General Motors in 2001, after 31 years of service. Bernie was a passionate racing enthusiast whose love for the sport was evident throughout his life. As a dedicated sponsor for Shamel Racing over the years, and an active team member with John Belott Racing, he played an integral role in supporting and contributing to the racing community. His enthusiasm for the track and commitment to the sport were truly unmatched. Beyond racing, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life, from playing the lottery and Keno to taking great pride in maintaining his home and yard. Bernie was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back, always ready to lend a hand whenever you needed it. His generosity, selflessness, and unwavering support knew no bounds—he was the friend who would drop everything to help without hesitation. Bernie truly loved celebrating life, often found raising a glass and 'tipping a few back' with friends. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are: Wife, Kathleen Johns; Children: Tina Timm, Cathie Stone, Kathleen White, and Kristy (Mike) Theile; Grandchildren: Ariel, Kristeen, Brooke, Graceyn, Johnny, Dallas, and Char; Many great grandchildren; Brothers: James (Kay) Johns, and David Johns; Sister, Ruthie (Joe) Long; Brother in law, John (Lynn) Belott; Sisters in law: Lorraine Belott, and Jody (Jim) McNally; Many loving nieces, nephews, other loving family members and friends. Bernie was also preceded in death by: Brother, Duane Johns; Son in law, Jeff White; Sister in law, Trina Johns.
